MALE-VS-FEMALE

Many people ask me about the difference between a male and a female Maltese. In my opinion, there is no particular difference which would make one a better pet over the other. My reasons for stating this are as follows:

1. PERSONALITY
There is no difference in personality between male and female Maltese. The Maltese breed has such a sweet, loving, animated and wonderful personality that it is difficult to distinguish any differences based on gender alone. There are sometimes subtle differences in personality between litter mates. For example, one puppy may be a little more extraverted while another puppy may be a little more reserved. These differences are based on the individual puppy rather than on gender.

2. AESTHETICS
Both males and females are very beautiful and elegant. Some people are reluctant to place bows in a male's hair. I believe it is just as appropriate for males to wear bows as females. Black, red, blue, green and purple bows are wonderful colours for boys.

3. NEUTER/SPAY PROCEDURES
I recommend that pet Maltese be spayed or neutered. This procedure is usually done at approximately 6 months of age in both males and females. For females, the spay procedure is more expensive as the uterus is removed. For males, the neuter surgery is considered a much easier procedure with a quick recovery time. When females are spayed they will no longer have their "heat" cycles. When males are neutered, the unpleasant habits which some male dogs have been given a bad reputation for are practically eliminated. Neutered males make great companions with other males as well as female Maltese.

Mitzimist Maltese have pretty "baby doll" faces with solid, compact bodies and conform to the standards set out by the regulatory body.
