I have been asked many times about the availability of "Teacup Maltese".

THERE IS NO SUCH ANIMAL!!!

The fact is the term "Teacup" has become a sales gimmick to charge more money for the puppy.  Maltese are a "toy dog breed".  They are small already. Some are just smaller than others and may still conform to the show standards. The American Maltese breed standard states that a Maltese needs to be 7 pounds and under, but prefer dogs of 4 to 6 pounds in weight.

There are people who breed very tiny Maltese in the hope they will produce very tiny puppies so they can sell them as "Teacup" size. In my opinion this practice is extremely unethical.

There is also a huge market for the so called "designer dogs".  This is also a sales ploy. It is nothing more than a mixed breed dog or puppy with a "designer" tag on it and are sold for large amounts of money because the public believe they are getting a rare puppy. These "designer" dogs are advertised every week in newspapers and are labelled as "Maltipoodles",  "Spoodles", "Yorkese" and "Cavmaltese".

Please be aware that these so called "Teacup" Maltese and "Designer" dogs are being bred and sold for as much if not more than reputably bred, pure bred dogs and puppies from committed and dedicated dog breeders.

Dogs are not commodities.  They are living beings, who, by no choice of their own, are totally dependent upon people and are at our mercy for their quality of life and survival. It is cruel to live a dog alone all day. They are pack animals and their mental health is dependent on being part of a pack. For dogs to be good pets, they need training and exercise.

Lack of socialisation during the first few months of a dog's life can create shy dogs which in many cases become fear-biters. Research shows that only 30% of all dogs stay in one home throughout their lives. Please do not support puppy farms or back yard breeders.
