TAKING CARE OF YOUR NEW PUPPY CONTINUED...
|
|
Purchase an informative Maltese breed book and study up on caring for your little one
before bringing your new family member home.
All new puppies need to be socialised as part of their development. Therefore, spend
lots of time playing, loving and training your puppy. This time spent will create a
special bond between you and your new "baby". Puppy play school is another way of
socialising your new puppy. Ask your local vet about the availability of puppy play
schools in your area.
Make sure your puppy has access to plenty of safe toys and a restricted safe area to play.
An exercise or play pen is useful or use baby gates to block off restricted areas inside
the house. Be sure to provide your little one with plenty of water and food. A young
Maltese puppy should not be left alone for extended periods of time.
Be very careful regarding children handling your puppy. Do not allow small children to
handle your puppy without strict supervision. A puppy can jump from a child's arms or
trip a child which may cause injury to both. Young children do not understand that little
puppies are not toys or playthings. They are fragile living beings and your puppy could
suffer serious injuries if not handled carefully by children.
